NextPhone Dialing 101
Making a call with NextPhone is just like a traditional phone service. You pick up the phone. Listen for a dial tone. Then start dialing.
Making a local or domestic long distance call with NextPhone.
To place a U.S. domestic call, simply dial the area code plus the seven-digit phone number of the person you are calling.
Making an international call with NextPhone.
To place an international call dial the Country Code + Telephone Number of the person you are calling.
Does NextPhone protect me from premium charged calls (such as 900 numbers)?
Yes, all 900 and 976 numbers will be blocked from your service.
With NextPhone, can I talk on the phone and use my computer at the same time?
Yes, your NextPhone service will work even if you are simultaneously accessing the Internet, sending files or instant messaging over the same broadband connection with your computer. However, the use of data services at the same time as a NextPhone call may affect sound quality.
Do I need to have my computer on to make a call?
If you are making calls using a normal telephone (connected to the NextPhone adapter and your broadband router) your computer does not need to be on for NextPhone to work. You can make and receive calls just like you would with your traditional phone service.
Will others be able to call me?
Yes. With NextPhone, you can make and receive calls just like you would with traditional phone service. Anyone can call you from anywhere.
Can I change my calling features?
NextPhone improves and simplifies call management by letting customers set up and manage popular call features like voice mail, call logs, call forwarding and other features via your Personal Account Manager.
If I lose power, will I still be able to use my NextPhone service?
No, a power or broadband service outage will prevent ALL NextPhone service from working, including Emergency Response Service. NextPhone Service and Emergency Response Service will not function until power is restored. However, you have the option of selecting a back-up phone number in case of an outage of your broadband connection or a power outage. This back-up phone number automatically forwards calls to a cell phone or another number during a power outage. You must register your correct service address for the Emergency Response Service. How do I know if I have a Voice Mail messages?
Pick up your NextPhone Phone handset and listen for a stutter tone. A stutter tone indicates that a Voice Mail Message(s) has been left for you.
You can also sign in to your Personal Account Manager and click View Voice Mail to see what messages have been left in your Voice Mail Box. To listen to the Voice Mail messages from your computer, click on the attached wav file.
