Will I need to purchase any additional equipment to use NextPhone Service?
If you currently have a broadband router with an extra port the answer is no, otherwise, you will need to purchase a broadband router.
Will NextPhone Service work on every phone jack in my house?
Yes. However, a professional telephone technician will need to come to your home and modify the telephone wiring of each phone jack. To use more than one phone with your NextPhone Service, we recommend using an expandable cordless phone system rather than your existing phone jacks.
What type of broadband/high-speed Internet connection can I use?
In order to take advantage of the benefits of NextPhone, you will need a high-speed Internet (broadband) Connection, including DSL or Cable Internet. High-Speed Dial-up connections, like AOL 9.0, will not provide enough speed to carry voice service with enough reliability and quality.
What are the bandwidth requirements for NextPhone?
The minimum bandwidth requirements for NextPhone are 256Kbps download/downstream, 64Kbps upload/upstream. However, if you plan to surf the Internet and download information while using your NextPhone service, we recommend 512Kbps download/96 Kbps upload.
Do I need a Static IP to use NextPhone?
No, you do not need a Static IP for NextPhone, but if you do have one we will support it.
Additional Technical Information:
• NextPhone service will not work if the power is out.
• If you have Satellite or TiVo services and you are using your phone
for updates, it is recommended that you contact the provider and upgrade
to use your broadband connection. This is a much more efficient method
for receiving updates.
• NextPhone is not designed for sending and receiving program and account
updates to your set-top box. For more information please contact your
Satellite or TiVo provider.
• Network congestion or use of data services at the same time as NextPhone
might affect sound quality.
• To use more than one phone with your NextPhone service, an expandable cordless
phone system is recommended.
